Our History

Born in 1916, founder Anthony J. Thomas Sr. was still a young boy when his father moved his family to the United States in 1924.  When the family arrived in the United States they had no money or possessions.  They had only a strong work ethic and the lure of "The American Dream"
Seven years later, at the age of fourteen, Tony dropped out of school and took odd jobs to support the family after his father became ill.

By 1946 he had saved enough money to open his own business, A. Thomas Meat Market. It was a small storefront meat market in the Haymarket district of Louisville, Kentucky.

A. Thomas Meat Market has grown into A. Thomas Foodservice, an 82,000 sq. ft., federally inspected, meat production and distribution facility. Now a third generation family owned company, A. Thomas Food Service operates with the same ethics, pride and self-imposed demand for product excellence and customer satisfaction that our reputation was built on.
